Former Team India cricketer Vinod Kambli is once again in the news. Recently, Kambli made headlines due to his poor health and financial crisis. Vinod Kambli is a childhood friend of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Both of them played domestic cricket together and also represented India. Kambli played 104 One Day Internationals and 17 Test matches for India. Over time, however, he suffered from multiple health issues and news emerged that he didn’t even have enough money to run his household.
On December 21, 2024, due to a deterioration in his health, Kambli was admitted to Thane’s Akruti Hospital. After receiving treatment, he was discharged, but his health hasn’t fully recovered. He is still suffering from several ailments. Along with his weak health, Kambli is also battling financial hardship.
Seeing Kambli in such a state, former cricketer and star commentator Sunil Gavaskar has stepped forward to help him.
In December 2024, during the inauguration of a memorial for legendary cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, Gavaskar publicly promised to assist Kambli. Now, Gavaskar has fulfilled that promise.
According to national media reports, through Gavaskar’s “Champs Foundation”, Kambli will receive ₹30,000 per month to help with his household expenses. Additionally, the foundation will also provide an annual aid of ₹30,000 for his medical expenses.
