Fans Disheartened Over Shubman Gill

The Indian team is set to begin a five-match Test series against England starting from June 20. The first match will be played from June 20 to June 24. One of the most notable things is that wherever the Indian team travels across the world, excitement is usually visible not only among officials but more so among fans. However, this time, the enthusiasm seems a bit dull. This lack of excitement was noticeable even at the England airport.

Though the Indian team has already arrived in England for the series, the kind of fervor usually seen among fans was missing. Normally, crowds of cricket lovers and media gather at the airport premises before the arrival of players. But in England, such scenes were absent.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both retired from international red-ball cricket. On May 7, they posted on Instagram announcing their retirement. Soon after, Virat Kohli also officially announced his retirement from Test cricket. As a result, their fans expressed disappointment and sadness.

After Rohit announced his Test retirement, the Indian team declared Shubman Gill as the captain for the England tour. However, this announcement did not generate much excitement among fans. In fact, questions have also been raised about Shubman’s Test batting average.

Despite this, it is hoped that during the matches, fans will show up at the stadiums to boost the players’ morale.
