South Africa Wins the World Test Championship Final
South Africa has emerged victorious in the final of the World Test Championship, clinching a win by 5 wickets. The team secured the remaining 69 runs required for victory before lunch today. With this win, South Africa has put an end to a long 27-year wait. Despite being a prominent name in world cricket, the team had not won a single ICC trophy since 1998. While they reached several finals over the years, the trophy had always eluded them — until now.
In the first innings, Australia scored 212 runs, while South Africa could only manage 138. However, in the second innings, South Africa restricted Australia to just 207 runs, setting a target of 282 runs to win. South Africa chased this down, finishing at 213, thanks to a crucial century from Aiden Markram. He scored 136 runs, playing a match-winning innings. Captain Temba Bavuma also contributed significantly with 66 runs off 134 balls.
The most significant point to note is that under Bavuma’s captaincy, South Africa has shown consistent performance in Test cricket. In fact, his win record in Tests stands at over 90%.
