Azharuddin expresses displeasure over Team India’s Asia Cup squad announcement; upset at Iyer’s exclusion
Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has expressed surprise over the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer from India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. On X, Azharuddin wrote that leaving Shreyas Iyer out of the squad is a big surprise. Ravichandran Ashwin also termed Iyer’s exclusion as unfortunate and unfair.
Iyer had scored 604 runs in IPL 2025, taking Punjab Kings to the final, and was also India’s top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Iyer’s exclusion was to maintain balance in the team, but the decision has surprised many, including big players like Azharuddin and Ashwin.
