Algerian boxer Iman Khalif, who delivered an outstanding performance in the women’s category at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a gold medal, has now made headlines due to a surprising revelation about their gender. Medical reports have revealed that Khalif is biologically male.
During the Olympics, there were rumors and discussions regarding Khalif’s gender. Despite these, Khalif remained focused and secured the top position. However, medical tests conducted post-Olympics disclosed certain male physical characteristics, including additional male reproductive anatomy, and the presence of XY chromosomes, which point to a 5-alpha reductase disorder. Khalif reportedly lacks female reproductive organs like a uterus, and MRI results indicated the presence of male-like genitalia.
During the Olympics, several female competitors indirectly pointed out suspicions regarding Khalif’s gender due to the presence of XY chromosomes. However, at that time, the Olympic Committee did not impose any restrictions on Khalif’s participation.
In 2023, Khalif was deemed ineligible for the World Championship, with the International Boxing Association imposing a ban on their participation. This also raised questions about Khalif’s future involvement in the Olympics.
