India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been performing exceptionally in Test, T20, and ODI formats. Known for his lethal bowling, Bumrah has led India to victory in many matches. His brilliance was evident from the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy to the 2024 T20 World Cup. Often hailed as one of the finest bowlers of this generation, Bumrah has proven his ability to dismiss top-tier batsmen consistently.
Bumrah, who is currently ranked as the No. 1 bowler in ICC Test rankings, has achieved yet another milestone by winning the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. In 2024, Bumrah claimed a record 71 wickets in 13 Test matches, the highest by any bowler that year. His stellar performance made him the 6th Indian player to win this prestigious honor.
Before Bumrah, Rahul Dravid (2004), Gautam Gambhir (2009), Virender Sehwag (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2018) were the only Indian players to win the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. After 2018, no Indian player managed to claim this title until Bumrah’s triumph in 2024.
India now matches Australia with six players winning the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. Notably, Steve Smith (2015 and 2017) is the only player to have won this award twice. In 2024, Bumrah topped the wicket-taker list, with England’s Gus Atkinson following him, having taken 52 wickets in 11 matches.
Bumrah’s victory has further solidified his reputation as one of the greatest bowlers of his time and a key asset for Indian cricket.
